Description

Brocade Wall hanging with Ornate Metal Clasp and tassel. Brocade fabric with a cotton back lining. Fine vintage wall hanging tapestry by Metrax-Craye. Made in Belgium, Metrax Craye is known for it's high quality Gobelin reproductions of famous artworks, and medieval tapestries. This floral is beautifully done, and still retains its original sticker. Design Inspiration: A lampas border on a canetille background.It was ordered for the summer furniture of the Queen Marie-Antoinette's bed chamber at at the Chateau de Versailles at the time of her marriage to the future Louis XVI in 1770. The border depicting roses and lilacs on its apple-green chequer background framed the panels and was used as a leading edge on the curtains, bed-hangings and on furniture. Measurements: Length: 44” from top of holder to bottom of the tassel Width: 10” brass holder. The fabric width is 9”.
