Description
The 2008 British GP was a wet affair. After Heikki Kovalainen, Hamilton's new McLaren-Mercedes team mate following Alonso's departure, secured pole position just the day before, he soon found himself in a spot of bother as Hamilton launched from fourth on the grid to second place at the very start of the race. Kovalainen was under immediate pressure, but kept the charging Hamilton at bay until Lap 5. Hamilton would line his team mate up down the Hangar Straight and pass him into Stowe right-hander. For the next 55 laps, Hamilton would go unchallenged as he mastered the treacherous conditions. Failing to put a foot wrong, his gap over his rivals would extend with each passing lap, sometimes by as much as six seconds per lap. When the 60-lap race came to an end, Hamilton crossed the finish line a massive 68 seconds ahead of Nick Heidfeld (BMW Sauber) and a further 14 seconds ahead of Rubens Barrichello (Honda). The poleman, Kovalainen, came home in fifth place. On that Sunday, 6 July 2008, Hamilton lapped every driver who finished the race, bar the two drivers who joined him on the podium. Only 13 drivers finished the race that day. Here is your chance to own a piece of racing history from that iconic day, in the form of a signed pass.
